Early Life
Ryo Okuda was born in Niigata, Japan on June 9th, 1991. Her father left the family when she was only four years old, and Ryo spent most of her life being raised by a single mother. She took a very early interest in professional wrestling at the age of six years old after seeing it on TV. She cites Manami Toyota, Meiko Satomura, and Nanae Takahashi as her earliest influences. In her later teenage years, a rift was created between Ryo and her mother over Ryo's adamant dislike of her potential stepfather. She had fully moved out of her family home by 16 years old, and lived out of the Sendai Girls' dojo until she was 19.Sendai Girls' Debut + Early Career (2006-2012)
Ryo applied to be part of the inaugural Sendai Girls' Pro Wrestling class in 2005, where she would train under one of her inspirations, Meiko Satomura. She was accepted into the dojo, and made her professional wrestling debut at age 15 on their first show on July 9th, 2006, where she wrestled Mayumi Ozaki in a losing effort. Her performance was impressive to everyone, including Meiko Satomura herself, who labelled Okuda as the future of the promotion. For the budding years of her career, Okuda wrestled throughout the independent joshi circuit to mixed success, including stints in Pro Wrestling WAVE and Marvelous. While she didn't find any title success, her match quality was improving greatly each time. The Satomura influence could be seen in her work, hitting hard and hitting fast, mixed with impressive displays of power that a woman of her size made look effortless.World Wonder Ring Stardom (2013-2014)
In later years, Okuda would begin to find success in pro-wrestling, first by winning the World of Stardom Championship on March 17th, 2013 from the inaugural champion and one of her inspirations growing up, Nanae Takahashi. She only held the title for a short 43-day stint before dropping it to Io Shirai, but would then go on to claim her second championship in STARDOM by teaming with Kyoko Kimura to capture the Goddesses of Stardom Championship on January 26th, 2014. The duo held the title for an impressive 196 days, mounting three successful defences before losing to the duo of Nanae Takahashi and Kairi Hojo. After losing their gold, Kimura and Okuda went their separate ways, leading to the formation of an all-star trio in Io Shirai, Mayu Iwatani and Ryo Okuda, who captured the Artist of Stardom Championship on December 7th, holding it for 129 days before needing to vacate the title due to an injury Okuda sustained.Return + Joshi Circuit Dominance (2015-2019)
The injury to Okuda's knee ultimately kept her out of action for close to a year, but she would come back just in time to be the first challenger for Meiko Satomura as the newly-minted Sendai Girls' World Champion. She unfortunately came up short against her mentor, but the showing put Ryo right back on the map, showing she hadn't missed a beat in her absence. In fact, she was looking better than ever.Despite her failure against Satomura, Ryo still had her eyes set on gold and alongside Mika Iwata, she would become one-half of the second Sendai Girls' Tag Team Champions, capturing the vacant title on the 28th of February, 2016. This would bring on Okuda's longest title reign yet, spanning 231 days before DASH Chisako and KAORU would capture the gold from them on October 16th.At the beginning of 2017, Okuda stepped up to challenge the reigning Sendai Girls' World Champion, Chihiro Hashimoto, who had defeated her mentor a few months prior. It was an absolute war between the two, but it led to Ryo Okuda becoming the third Sendai Girls' World Champion: a title which she would carry with pride for 87 days before dropping the title back to Hashimoto in another instant classic. After dominating Sendai Girls' since her return, Ryo Okuda returned to the larger world of joshi pro-wrestling and over in Pro Wrestling WAVE, developed a great team with Rin Kadokura. The younger wrestler learned a lot from Ryo in their partnership and as a duo, they captured the WAVE Tag Team Championship on September 17th, holding it for 148 days before dropping the gold to Nagisa Nozaki and Yuki Miyazaki. After the successful tag team run with Kadokura in WAVE, they would again team up in Sendai Girls' to capture their Tag Team Championship on March 11th, 2018. During the reign, Okuda would also find singles success in both Sendai Girls' and WAVE, first capturing the vacant Sendai Girls' World Championship on June 24th, marking her second reign with the title, then subsequently capturing the Regina di WAVE Championship from Misaki Ohata just four days later.
Unfortunately, she was unable to mount a successful title defence before losing the title to ASUKA on August 19th, and just shy of a month later, she and Kadokura would lose the Sendai Girls' Tag Team Championship as well to her old partner Mika Iwata, and her career rival, Chihiro Hashimoto. In better news, however, this win over Okuda propelled Hashimoto into challenging for the Sendai Girls' World Championship. Tying up the score between them, Okuda scored victory over Hashimoto. And on May 29th, 2019, Ryo would add another world title to her collection when she captured SEAdLINNNG's Beyond The Sea Championship from the same woman she defeated to win the World of Stardom Championship over six years ago, Nanae Takahashi. She held the title for 112 days, during which she would suffer defeat for her Sendai Girls' World Championship to Sareee after a staggering 349-day reign.International Exposure (2019-present)
Shortly following the deafeat to Sareee, Ryo took her first booking outside of Japan, and her first step toward becoming the International Ace she is known as today. On June 30th, 2019, Okuda shocking captured the Pro-Wrestling: EVE Championship. And back in her native Japan, Okuda captured her second Regina di WAVE Championship after the title had been vacated. Her triple-crown reign unfortunately wouldn't last long as she lost the Beyond The Sea Championship to Arisa Nakajima on September 18th, then subsequently lost her Regina di WAVE Championship to Nagisa Nozaki on December 29th.During this time, however, Ryo stayed a defending champion in Pro-Wrestling: EVE, mounting five successful defences with the gold into 2020, before travel shut down from the global pandemic. The pandemic left EVE unable to run shows at all, and meant that Okuda couldn't travel to the United Kingdom either. But in return for the promotion's hospitality to her, Okuda vowed to defend the EVE title against Japan's best until she could return to the UK, earning herself an additional eight defences over the course of over a year before dropping the title to Jetta in August 2021 once she returned to the U.K., leading her to set an unbeatable record of 789 days as a fighting champion.Just before then, Ryo would capture her third Sendai Girls' Tag Team Championship on June 27th, teaming with Rin Kadokura once again. They only held the titles for 85 days this time, losing them to Manami and once again, Mika Iwata. But with travel opened up again and Okuda able to run the world as she wanted to in 2019, she began to set her sights on international superstardom. Her final stop in Japan was winning Marvelous' AAAW Championship on January 10th, being the first wrestler to hold the title in nearly seventeen years. With that title over her shoulder, Okuda set her sights on winning as many more as she could across the globe.Ryo would first find success in Germany's wXw, where she captured the Women's World Championship on October 23rd, holding it for 133 days before being defeated by Ava Everett on March 5th, 2022. Just a month later, Ryo appeared on Ring of Honor for its first live show under new ownership, defeating Miranda Alize on Supercard of Honor's Zero Hour. She then captured her second title outside of Japan, that being IWA Mid South's Women's Championship on May 20th, of which she would be the final holder once the promotion folded in June. But just a few days after the promotion closed down, Okuda found a replacement title when she captured the SHINE Nova Championship on June 19th, which she would go on to hold for an astounding 434 days, marking her second longest title reign to date. This time with zero asterisks.Though her competition in Japan was somewhat irregular, Ryo successfully defended her AAAW Championship a handful of times, as well as capturing the AAAW Tag Team Championship alongside Chikayo Nagashima on September 16th, which they would hold for over a year until December 10th, 2023. Shortly after winning the AAAW Tag Team Championship alongside Nagashima, the two had a friendly bout for the AAAW Championship on December 4th, where Okuda lost to her own partner, marking the end of her historic 298 day reign.Following this reign, Okuda devoted even more of her time to wrestling internationally, usually only returning to Japan for tag team bouts alongside her partner. She became a regular fixture from the start of Ring of Honor's weekly show on HonorClub in 2023, where she competed against and defeated some of the promotion's best, including an unsuccessful challenge for Athena's ROH Women's Championship. In August, she captured the West Coast Pro Wrestling Women's Championship on August 10th, which she holds to this day.
